AUSTIN, TEXAS – The Texas Association of Business (TAB) today announced that Governor Greg Abbott will serve as the keynote speaker for the “Best Companies to Work for in Texas Gala” on October 4th. The Governor will also be receiving the inaugural Guardian of Capitalism Award, recognizing his unparalleled contributions to the Texas business community.
“We are honored to have Governor Abbott headline this year’s gala, where we will announce the rankings of the Best Companies to Work for in Texas,” said TAB CEO, Glenn Hamer. “The Lone Star State is the epicenter of economic development, and no one in our state has done more to help businesses succeed than Governor Greg Abbott.”
Under Governor Abbott’s stewardship of the ninth-largest economy in the world, Texas has been named the “Best State for Business” by CEO Magazine 17 years in a row and has won Site Selection Magazine’s “Governor’s Cup,” given to the state with the most new economic development projects, a record nine years in a row. During his time as Governor, the Lone Star State has added more than one million new jobs. He was also named “Best Governor in the Nation” in 2020.
In the 87th Legislative Session, the Governor signed meaningful pro-business legislation, adding COVID liability protections for Texas employers; shielding business owners from paying franchise taxes on PPP loans used to pay their employees; expanding broadband access; allowing restaurants with the appropriate permits to sell alcohol to go; and protecting businesses with commercial vehicles from abusive lawsuits. Before being elected the 48th Governor of the State of Texas, he was Texas’ longest-serving attorney general.
